eKare and SWFT’s OOH Division Announce County-Wide Rollout Following Successful Pilot Program

eKare Inc., a leading provider of advanced wound assessment solutions, and South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) are pleased to announce the county-wide implementation of eKare’s inSight® Wound Management Digital System. This decision follows a highly successful pilot program that demonstrated significant improvements in wound care management and patient outcomes.

Pilot Program Success

The pilot program, conducted over six months, involved two community nursing, Tissue Viability and Leg Ulcer teams. The primary goals were to improve the consistency of wound care assessments, standardise care, provide specialist oversight, and identify areas for optimisation to achieve efficiency savings. Key outcomes of the pilot included:

  • Increased Clinical efficiency: Improved consistency in wound assessments, reduced time taken for wound assessments from 25 minutes to 7 minutes, allowing for more patient-facing time and enabling caseload managers to efficiently manage wound assessments. inSight enabled remote triage and review, allowing tissue viability nurses to focus more on direct patient care.
  • Access to live data: Enhanced the accuracy and reliability of wound care data, giving real-time insights into patient progress and facilitating timely interventions, better care planning, and virtual MDT options. Specialists could review, triage, and influence wound care remotely. Dashboards also enabled, enabling service-level monitoring of metrics such as formulary compliance, time to assessment, and healing rates.
  • Reduction in Cost: Improved healing rates resulted in a reduction in the length of stay on the caseload, resulting in a direct reduction in dressing spend. Formulary optimisation, Time savings, and Specialist intervention remotely using dashboards all added to cost optimisations, with the additional benefit of remote monitoring allowing the reduction of in-person visits, saving travel expenses and time.
  • Improved Staff Morale: The ease of use, efficiencies, benefits realised for the patient, and support provided by the new technology boosted staff interest and eagerness to embrace the technology. This has resulted in improved staff morale and better patient outcomes.
  • Enhanced Patient Experience: The technology facilitated a collaborative care planning process, engaging patients and improving outcomes.

Jack Foster, ACOO, OOH Division at SWFT, commented on the pilot’s success: “The introduction of eKare’s inSight® system has transformed our approach to wound care. The precise imaging, streamlined documentation, and significantly increased visibility of data and metrics have not only improved our Wound Care practices but have also had a tangible impact on efficiency savings and patient outcomes. We are excited to expand this technology countywide in the OOH Division.”

County-Wide Rollout Within Community Out of Hospital (OOH)

Building on the positive results of the pilot, SWFT will now implement the inSight® system across all relevant departments for the next 5 years. This county-wide rollout across OOH aims to standardise wound care practices, ensuring that all patients benefit from the latest advancements in wound assessment technology.

“We are thrilled to partner with SWFT for this county-wide rollout,” said Stephen Doades, VP of eKare. “Our mission is to empower healthcare providers with cutting-edge tools that enhance patient care. The success of the pilot program at SWFT is a testament to the impact our technology can have in a real-world clinical setting.”
